More info

The TRISCELE or triskelis, is an ancient symbol formed by 3 spirals joined at a central point, more generally three intertwined spirals, or, by extension, any other symbol with three protuberances and a threefold rotational symmetry.
Only later was the depiction of a being with three legs introduced (from ancient Greek: triskelḕs).
The figure also gives the symbol its name. The history of the ancient Triscele is articulated and complex and in some ways still shrouded in mystery since it is linked to mythology.
The first representations of the Triskelion come from Asia Minor and date back to the 4th century BC.
