More info

In heraldry, the dolphin, historically considered the most noble of the fish (though the animal is actually a mammal), symbolizes naval victory, loyalty, disinterested protection, clement and vigilant prince.
The lord of the Province of the Dolphin, in the 9th century, took the title of Dolphin, and in 1349 it was granted to the eldest son of the King of France.
The dolphin is normally placed in the band and this position does not blur. In the French heraldry, however, the ordinary position of the dolphin is polished and slightly curved.

In the Pazzi palace in Florence there is a Coat of Arms with two symmetrical dolphins, attributed to Donatello.
