The heraldic eagle has a conventional shape, body in front, wings spread, head to the right. The eagle in Greek and Latin mythology is the bird sacred to Zeus, god of lightning and clouds, its specific attribute, and is often identified with the same father of the gods. It is also a symbol of power, victory and prosperity.

In ancient Rome the eagle was used in the Roman army as a sign of the entire Roman legion.
