They were affixed to the facades of the farmhouses with the coat of arms of the noble family of the farm. This tradition was in use since the mid-fourteenth century, typical especially of the famous Florentine artist family "Della Robbia".
Francesco Cattani from Diacceto, or Ghiacceto, known as Pagonazzo (Florence, November 16, 1466 - Florence, April 10, 1522), was an Italian Platonic philosopher. The Old man was also called to distinguish him from the homonymous nephew, who was bishop of Fiesole.
He studied classical letters and philosophy in Pisa, where he studied with Giovanni de 'Medici; he met Marsilio Ficino and was a faithful disciple, continuing the work of spreading Platonism.
In 1499 he wrote De pulchro, since 1502 he taught in the Studio of Florence. He published De amore in 1508, making it the Italian version. Rector of the Florentine Platonic Academy, wrote the Panegyricus in amorem and commented on the Plato Symposium.
