More info

Near the beautiful Marco Aurelio's Column there is the fountain of Piazza Colonna. The design was by Giacomo della porta (Genova 1533 - Roma 1602). The fountain was commissioned and installed in 1557 by Papa Gregorio XIII. Initially it was composed of only the basin and a central element. By 1830, the two groups of dolphins with the shell, were added. The two groups of dolphin was sculpted by A. Stocchi.
