Original
Ancient tile 40 X 40 cm in Bardiglio Apuan marble with a labyrinth of Jericho engraved. In practice we have sculpted the labyrinth on an ancient Tuscan marble tile. This Labyrinth is the oldest of the known labyrinths of Jericho and is attributed to the Byzantine Eastern Church. The tile of about 40x40 cm is in gray marble "Bardiglio Apuan". We drew inspiration from the Syriac manuscript preserved in Lebanon at the Library of Beirut Lebanon, of which we attach some images.

There are four groups of Jericho Labyrinths distinguishable from each other
according to their place of origin:
Greek Orthodox
Catholic-Roman
Jewish
Syrian (Ours belongs to this fourth category)
The Jericho Labyrinths of the Eastern Church are rectangular and have seven corridors.
The opening at the top is predominantly noted in contrast to the labyrinths of the West
which have the opening at the bottom. For the Western Church only three
labyrinths of this type are known; the oldest is attributed to the Byzantine Eastern Church.
We also find, as an exception, a Christianized Jericho labyrinth of the
Chartres type while all the others reproduce the Cretan type. After the 12th
century, labyrinths of this type are no longer found in the Western Church. The Jewish examples are always circular formed by seven
concentric circles and the city is always at the center of the labyrinth. The entrance is
always at the bottom.
Right-hand rule:
The procedure consists of placing the right hand
(or the left hand) on the right wall of the maze (or
respectively on the left wall) at the entrance of the
maze, and choosing the only path that allows you to
never remove your hand from the chosen wall, until you
reach one of the other possible exits, or the starting
point. In the particular case of a single exit,
the algorithm leads to a dead end, from which you
return to the starting point simply by
continuing to follow the chosen wall.
