It is one of the numerous depictions of the image venerated in the sanctuary of Gennazzano, near Rome, whose cult spread especially in the second half of the 18th century. The iconography is traditional: the Virgin and Child, with their heads surrounded by an elaborate halo, are represented with their faces close together, both covered by the Madonna's veil.
