St. Peter's Fish (Zeus faber Linnaeus, 1758) is a saltwater fish, an exponent of the Zeidae family. Widespread in areas close to the seabed (up to 400 meters) in all temperate and tropical waters, including the Mediterranean and Black Sea. In the Atlantic it is present along the coastal waters from Scandinavia to South Africa but it is rare further north of the Channel. In the eastern Pacific it is found from Japan to Australia. Its presence was also reported in the Indian Ocean, along the coasts of the Indian peninsula and Madagascar.
In Italian seas it is quite common.
It lives on movable sand or mud bottoms of the surrounding area, usually between 50 and 200 meters.
