HELLENISTIC HORSE HEAD

Provenance Rome. It belonged to the Medici which was temporarily confiscated in 1495, after the expulsion of Pietro di Lorenzo. With the first return of the Medici to Florence (1512), he returned to Palazzo Medici, then Ricciardi. The head has been owned by the Uffizi Galleries since 1890. Dating 1st century AD. - Donatello took it into consideration for the Gattamelata monument in Padua. This head is very similar to that of the Archaeological Museum of Naples, also from the Medici collections.
