Never Down : Numquam Deorsum
One of the many Latin slogans beloved of Gabriele D'Annnunzio tied to the image of fire whose flames always tend towards the top. The motto was painted in the middle of a burning flame, on a sheet metal fender of one of the numerous fireplaces of Villa La Capponcina, Settignano, Florence.
The writing is highlighted in purple red in the manner of the ancient Romans.

More info

Villa La Capponcina: The Italian poet left an important mark on the house in Via della Capponcina n. 32, decorating it with fifteenth-century furniture.
He lived here like a Renaissance prince, surrounded by numerous servants, by a lot of dogs and horses.
The villa is best known for being the scene of the love between the poet and the theater actress Eleonora Duse, who lived a few steps away, at Villa Porziuncola (at n. 75 on the other side of the street).
