Musée du Vieux-Château1 is a municipal museum in Laval, in Mayenne (France). It is located in the medieval castle which overlooks the old town. It has a variety of collections, ranging from academic painting to archeology and local history, but permanent exhibitions mainly concern the naive art collection, and the institution is generally known to visitors as a museum Naive art. The museum was first devoted to Classical Fine Arts before specializing in the 1960s, notably because the Douanier Rousseau and some other painters belonging to this current are natives of Laval.
