La Verna, Basilica, temple on the right.
"Virgin in adoration". Andrea della Robbia. 1479 - 220x170 cm
Particularly refined and expressive work.
The Virgin, kneeling, observes the Child who, on the other hand, does not look at the Mother. but she turns to humanity. The Holy Trinity is represented in the work: above the Eternal Father, the Holy Spirit represented by the dove, below the Son.
The whole scene is surrounded by eight angels and six Cherubim heads.
Part of the famous collection of glazed terracotta at the Sanctuary of La Verna.

The Franciscan sanctuary of La Verna, located a few kilometers from Chiusi della Verna, in the province of Arezzo and diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, within the national park of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna, is famous for being the place in which St. Francis of Assisi would have received the stigmata on 14 September 1224. Built in the southern part of Mount Penna at 1128 meters high, the sanctuary - destination of numerous pilgrims - houses numerous chapels and places of prayer and meditation, as well as several points of considerable religious importance.
In August 1921, Pope Benedict XV raised the church to the rank of a minor basilica.
