From 1873 to 1912 the building of the villa was the seat of the Museum of Natural History (1873-1912), with an adjoining zoo, then the Geological Museum, from 1929 of the Archaeological Museum and in 1935 to the materials exposed of this were added for five years the Ethnography and Costume collections.
