The white ibis (Eudocimus albus Linnaeus, 1758) is a pelecaniform bird of the Treschiornitidae family.
Adults are 56–61cm long and wingspan 85–95cm. They have long curved beaks, pink legs, and hairless red faces. The plumage is completely white, except for the black wing tips. The juveniles are largely brown with white and slightly hairless underparts. These birds are found in swampy areas, often near the coasts, and are widespread in tropical areas of America. They build nests made of twigs in trees or bushes near the water and their typical brood consists of 2 to 5 eggs. They are monogamous and colonial and often nest in mixed colonies with other waders. Ibises generally feed on fish, frogs, crustaceans and insects.
